Do The Right Films, founded in New York in 2013, produces award-winning documentaries, film showcases and exhibitions that expose injustice, illuminate the power of community and tell a history seldom told.
The Black Italian Film Showcase, curated by Fred Kudjo Kuwornu, is the first celebration of Afro-Italian talent in cinema. It features new features, documentaries, and short films that illuminate the historical, social, and cultural aspects of Black life in Italy. The showcase has toured major cities including San Francisco, Detroit, Chicago, and São Paulo, offering diverse representations of Italy. Through these films, the event addresses crucial topics such as colonialism, diversity, global black diaspora, gender, race, and identity.
We produce content for Black History courses, bringing untold stories to life. We collaborate with 'Teaching Black Italy,' an online course for Italian Studies educators exploring the African diaspora in Italy. This partnership reflects our commitment to fostering understanding of Black history and culture in diverse contexts. We support educators in creating inclusive curricula that accurately represent the Black experience
We specialize in distributing our own productions and curating compelling Black European cinema for academic libraries and schools, while building bridges between Black European filmmakers and U.S. audiences through campus tours and community screenings. Our unique approach combines film distribution with educational outreach, fostering cultural exchange and promoting a deeper understanding of the Black European experience across continents.
